The natural host range of WMV-2 is Cucurbita pepo,
Cucumis melo, C. sativus, Citrullus
lanatus and some legumes, where it causes mosaic, mottling and
leaf shape malformation. The virus is transmitted by inoculation
from an insect vector. At least 29 species of aphids transmit
watermelon mosaic 2 potyvirus, including Aphis craccivora
and Myzus persicae.
