Description
In the genetically modified oilseed rape ß-ketoacyl synthase, which catalyses the elongation of oleic acid (C18:1) to ecrucic acid (C22:1), is seed-specifically expressed along with lysophosphatidic acid acyltransferase, which specifically catalyses the linkage of erucic acid to the sn-2 position of lysophosphatidic acid.
As a result of the genetic modification it is expected that the synthesis of erucic acid in combination with the presence of lysophosphatidic acid acyltransferase will lead to enhancement of the production of trierucin in the seeds.
Recipient Organism or Parental Organisms
The term Recipient organism refers to an organism (either already modified or non-modified) that was subjected to genetic modification, whereas Parental organisms refers to those that were involved in cross breeding or cell fusion.
